20 Finch Dental is a silver/mercury/amalgam-free practice. Although many patients have these types of fillings, they are not particularly attractive. Silver fillings can sometimes lead to fracturing over time, however porcelain fillings can add strength to weakened teeth. Porcelain inlays/onlays and direct/indirect composites are almost unnoticeable in the mouth. Also, they are very strong due to the advanced bonding techniques used in manufacturing.

  • Direct fillings are placed into a prepared cavity in just one visit. We will prepare the tooth by removing all decay and traces of bacteria inside the cavity. The tooth will then be thoroughly rinsed and cleared of all debris before the filling material is placed inside the cavity and shaped to match the look and feel of your surrounding teeth. The materials commonly used for direct fillings include resin ionomers, composite or resin, or glass ionomers.

  • This type of filling typically requires two or more visits. Types of indirect fillings include veneers, crowns, inlays, onlays and bridges that are made with composites, ceramics, metal alloys, or gold. During your first visit, we will remove the decay and prepare the tooth for the additional work by making an impression of the tooth. PREVENTIVE RESIN RESTORATION

The etched resin techniques have proven results which has shown renewed interest in the conservative cavity design along with a view for the healthy tooth material preservation.

Preventive resin restorations are among the newer techniques which show long-term success. This treatment of resin restoration has various distinct advantages over the traditional amalgam restorations. But, it requires an excellent isolation of moisture and saliva contamination.

  • A recent medication is done in the restoration procedure. With the advent of newer restorative materials the ideology of sealing for prevention of fissure caries rather than ‘the cavity extension for prevention’ came into practice.

    Preventive restorations are the next step up from a sealant. These restorations are recommended when there are stains in the pits of teeth or the beginnings of decay. These restorations are in between a sealant and a filling. Some tooth structure is drilled away, but not as much as would be for a filling. Sometimes these preventive restorations are recommended when there has been tooth breakdown around a sealant (which can happen). Preventive restorations can help prevent the need for a larger filling down the road.

    Preventive resin restoration utilizes the invasive and non-invasive treatment of borderline or questionable caries. The resin placed in the carious areas and adjacent caries susceptible areas, seal them from the oral environment and provide a valuable treatment alternative to conventional restoration like amalgams.

  • Minimal cavity preparation required thus prevents unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure for retention.

    2. Loss of the restoration and subsequent replacement proves to be less invasive than that for conventional restoration like amalgam

ROOT CANALS

A root canal is one of the most common dental procedures. A root canal can save your natural tooth and prevent extraction.

  • Your dentist will perform a root canal when the root of your tooth becomes infected. Infection of the root, if left untreated, can cause deep decay, cracks and long-term damage. If you experience tooth pain and discomfort and have trouble chewing, a root canal may be needed. During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove the infected, or dead root (pulp) from your tooth.
